Plant Operator (Seaford, DE)

Summary/Objective:

The Plant Operator ensures the assigned sand and gravel plant is operating in an efficient and productive manner.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure that the sand and gravel plant and related equipment are operating properly at all times. Inspect the plant for maintenance and operations problems. Grease and oil as required; keep plant and equipment clean and free of excess material; ensure all material handling equipment is working and material is moving through the plant smoothly at all times.
  2. Ensure and maintain proper levels of raw materials. Communicate with the Loader Operators to ensure the hoppers remain full of aggregates, and notify the manager of impending shortages on a timely basis.
  3. Complete all required plant production and maintenance reports accurately and timely. Run sand gradations and calculate percentages of waste content.
  4. Perform basic mechanical tasks as required.
  5. Supervise the Plant Laborer in successful day-to-day operations. Provide necessary training to ensure a thorough understanding of the production process and the different types of materials and products sold by the company.
  6. Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times.
  7. Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports.
  8. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Follow proper procedures and complete required documentation if an accident or injury occurs. Notify manager or Safety Department as required.
  9. Understand and comply with all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies. Notify manager and the Safety Manager immediately of any potential or current safety problems.
  10. Wear required PPE.
  11. Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, which may include, but not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, sweeping, shoveling, moving wheelbarrows, picking up equipment or supplies.
  2. Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Work time will be outdoor/field.
  • Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells.
  • Exposure to chemicals such as fuel, grease and oil.
  • Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level will be moderate to loud.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift a maximum weight of 100 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., and push/pull approximately 50 lbs.
  • Reach overhead and reach away from the body.
  • Sit 2 hours per day, walk 2 hours per day, stand 2 hours per day, climb 2 hours per day, kneel 2 hours per day, crawl 1 hour per day, and squat the other 1 hour per day.
