Date: May 7, 2024
Chaney Enterprises proudly hosted its highly successful 25th Annual Chaney Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, May 6 at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course in Queenstown, MD. The event was organized by Chaney Cares, the philanthropic arm of Chaney Enterprises, with the aim of raising funds to construct a brand-new Boys & Girls Club in Lothian, MD. This year's tournament broke a 25-year fundraising record and had an impressive turnout with 60 sponsors and 245 golfers.
The golfers enjoyed a cloudy day of golf on Queenstown Harbor's renowned courses – the River Course and Lakes Course. Apart from showcasing their skills on the greens, participants engaged in exciting hole-in-one contests sponsored by Lindsay Ford, Carter Cat, and Jesco. Additionally, the tournament featured various longest drive challenges and closest to pin challenges that added to the overall excitement.
After an intense round of golfing challenges and friendly competition, everyone gathered for appetizers and awards.
On the Lakes Course, Patuxent Companies secured third place while Marty Mows took second place. Vulcan emerged as champions in first place. On the Rivers Course, USI Insurance secured third place followed by Brown Brothers Harriman in second place. Finally, Chaney Enterprises clinched first place to claim victory.
This exceptional day would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of over 25 volunteers; many volunteers were Chaney employees who worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes to ensure a smooth-running event.
With this year's tournament breaking fundraising records, the organizers are already looking forward to next year's tournament scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025, at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course.
Boys & Girls Club Project
All funds raised during this year's tournament will be directed towards supporting Chaney Cares’ initiative to construct a new Boys & Girls Club located across from Southern Middle School in Lothian, MD. The project is being developed jointly with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BGCAA), who currently oversee other successful clubs including Wiley H. Bates, Bywater, Admiral Oaks, Freetown Village, Meade Village, Heritage Overlook, and the Severn Center. Club management is overseen by CEO, Lisa Lindsay-Mondoro.
The forthcoming clubhouse is now entering the final stages of the design process with award-winning architecture firm Bignell Watkins Hasser Architects, PC. True to its Southern Maryland roots, the new club will showcase a barn-inspired exterior design spanning approximately11,000 square feet along with an additional 8,500 square foot gymnasium. The interior includes multipurpose classrooms, a tech center, a teen center, a teaching kitchen, a game room, lounge areas, staff offices, and conference spaces. The club will also feature outdoor spaces like learning gardens and a play area where children can engage in outdoor activities.
Chaney Cares has long dreamed about bringing this project into reality. Chaney Enterprises has consistently supported local communities via philanthropic leadership, charitable contributions, and environmental stewardship initiatives. With a focus on empowering local youth, this initiative aims to shape tomorrow’s workforce while providing young people with safe environments where they can realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
