News - Chaney Foundation Announces 2006 Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to this year's Chaney Foundation scholarship winner - Latrina Alston, of Waldorf, MD.
The Chaney Foundation was pleased to once again offer the Chaney Foundation Scholarship to a local high school student pursuing a career in the building trades. Competition was high this year, and the scholarships were given based on academics, community involvement, and leadership. Latrina demonstrates exemplary success in all of these areas, and has been recognized with numerous academic awards.
Latrina is a 2006 honors graduate of La Plata High School. In the Fall Latrina will attend Hampton University majoring in Architecture. While maintaining her high school 3.96 GPA, Latrina still made time to volunteer for Relay for Life, Girl Scouts of America and enjoy extracurricular activities that included dancing, sewing and playing the drums.
Additionally, Latrina is very athletic; she held the position of Captain of the Cross Country Team and Captain of Indoor/Outdoor Track. School activities included Student Government Association, school liason to the Charles County Board of Education, class delegate and has received academic awards including the Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) award, President and Principal's Honors and the National Honor Society.
Congratulations also goes to Cole Major and Michael Falls, who were awarded continuing scholarships. Cole is a senior at University of Maryland concentrating in the Architecture field while still making time for activities including the University of Maryland Sailing Team, photography and the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland. Michael Falls is a sophomore at Towson University majoring in International Business while making time to study three foreign languages, participate in intramural soccer and hold down two part-time jobs.
Hats off to each of you for a wonderful job and all of your dedication! Keep up the fantastic work!
