Chaney Enterprises, a ready-mix concrete, aggregates, custom blends, and related construction supplies provider, today announced it won two Maryland American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) Excellence in Concrete Awards for its Dover Road Bridge Replacement project and Chesapeake Village Center project.

The Excellence in Concrete Awards recognize companies who depict advancement of knowledge and practices in the field of concrete construction. Applicants are required to explain significant and noteworthy areas of the project in architecture, engineering, construction, or workmanship.

Chaney’s Dover Bridge Replacement project, awarded in the infrastructure category of the awards, was built in critical areas and wetland mitigation sites at the eastern limits on the eastern shore. Using an innovative Omega Beam trestle bridge system, Chaney’s method minimized impacts to environmentally sensitive areas. The Omega system was developed within a year of the project and was the first application of this system to be used.

The Stevensville Chesapeake Village Center, Maryland’s first multifamily structure to earn a National Green Building Standard (NGBS) Emerald certification, was built using Chaney’s Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) method and awarded by Maryland ACI for Excellence in Concrete. Substantial environmental benefits including a reduction in heating and air condition costs between 25 and 45 percent, lower operational costs, and enhanced durability are attributed to the ICF building method and played a role in reaching Emerald certification.

“The achievement of these awards is the direct result of the hard work and commitment of our employees, who constantly strive to be the best at what they do,” said Francis "Hall" Chaney, III, president of Chaney Enterprises. “At Chaney, continuous training and education is part of our culture, because we know that excellence in our communities starts with an understanding of best practices in our field and carries over in the application of those skills on our projects.”

Chaney employees received the awards during Maryland ACI’s 2019 Excellence in Concrete Awards Banquet held in Hanover.
