If you happen to drive on I-97 past the exit for Benfield Blvd, you can’t help but notice a tall concrete structure on the west side of the interstate. This 5-story building is now the tallest Tilt-up structure in the state of Maryland.
For some traveling in the area, it seemed as though this business park just appeared one day. Tilt-up construction isn’t quite that fast, but it is widely known for its efficiency and speed during construction. Other benefits of Tilt-up construction include reduced operating costs, reduced insurance premiums, fire safety, ease of maintenance and durability.
This business park consists of cast-in-place Tilt-up concrete panels with typical composite structural steel framed floors. The panels, totaling 81’ tall, went up in a matter of weeks with the help of a 97.6 ton capacity crane and the experienced Tilt-up construction crew of Precision Concrete Construction.
This project was designed by Powers Brown Architecture and developed by St. John Properties. Chaney Enterprises supplied 3,800 cubic yards of concrete that created the footings, slab on grade, elevated slabs, and the Tilt-up panels. Ground broke in July 2016 and the project is due to be completed this spring.
