Whether Land or Sea, We Deliver

Chaney Enterprises is now in the barging business with Sussex Sand & Gravel out of Sussex County, Delaware.  With the help of Norfolk Tug Company, our first load of Chaney sand shipped out on Monday, January 4th from Seaford, Delaware to Norfolk, Virginia to the tune of 4,300 tons.

Barging has been around for centuries as an efficient means to transport low cost items across navigable waterways.  The Erie Canal is actually credited by historians as providing New York City the means to surpass Philadelphia as America’s largest port and city during the earlier portion of the industrial revolution.  Today, barging is still a great economical means of transporting bulk materials such as grain, gravel, sand, and limestone, especially to heavily populated coastal cities and towns.

One barge load frees up approximately 200 trucks from our congested highways and reduces fuel consumption that in turn reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

From the Nanticoke river, to the Chesapeake Bay and off into the ocean, Chaney Enterprises can now economically ship raw construction materials as far north as Connecticut and as far south as the Carolinas, serving areas still hungry for sand and gravel such as Pennsylvania and New York.
